Introduction
Want to collaborate with other special librarians in Minnesota about how Web 2.0 technologies can be used at work? Take part in our Special Library 2.0 Discussion Forum!
The purpose of this Discussion Forum is to create a place for us to explore new Web 2.0 technologies and brainstorm how they can be used in special libraries. To participate, you can follow one of two options: the original 23 Things created by Helene Blowers, PLCMC Technology Director; or the 23 Things on a Stick program being sponsored by Minnesota’s Seven Multicounty Multitype Library Systems. Then attend our 2 discussion sessions to talk to peers about the technologies you learned about and how to implement them in the workplace.
The design of both of these online programs center on free Web 2.0 technologies available on the Internet such as blogs, wikis, and other online applications. This is a chance for librarians to come and explore at their own pace. Feel free to participate in whatever capacity works best for you.
In order to share ideas we are asking people to set up and share their own blog. After you have created your blog (the first step of the 23 step program), simply send us the link by including it as a comment. You can post on a weekly basis and use the blogs as a place to share ideas, pose questions, etc.
In order to know what steps to follow each week please see the Helene Blowers program for a complete list of the 23 steps here: http://plcmcl2-things.blogspot.com/ or you can follow the 23 Things on a Stick program found here: http://23thingsonastick.blogspot.com/ They do differ slightly. Feel free to pick and choose what resources you want to explore. This is a learning and professional growth activity you can take to whatever level you are comfortable with and have time for. Have fun with it!
We will have an informal discussion session at the halfway point and at the end of the 9 week program to brainstorm and discuss your reactions, thoughts, and opinions. Feel free to participate in the discussion groups even if you didn't explore all of the new tools or didn’t have a chance to make a blog entry. The goal of this group is to get new ideas and collaborate on how these Web 2.0 technologies can help us in our roles as Special Librarians.
This program will start on February 4th. Please see the schedule posted below!
